Mom with baby imageStudies indicate that a mother's poor oral health can adversely affect the health of the fetus and newborn. In a recent study conducted at the University of North Carolina, the scientific team discovered that women with oral bacterial inflammation were seven times more likely to deliver Low Birth Weight babies prematurely. Children with parents / caregivers who have oral bacteria inflammation are 55 times more likely to have oral bacteria inflammation themselves. This can lead to an increase of serious health problems in later years.

In another study of 20 married couples, the spouses of patients with oral bacteria inflammation had worse periodontal disease than the spouses of patients without periodontal disease.
